Dell and Walsh Western – Where is my laptop?
Dell and Walsh Western’s incompetent, useless and lying customer service drives me close to mental but no closer to my laptop.
On December 5th I ordered a nice new laptop from Dell. They charged me an extortionate £60 for delivery but even so they were still cheaper than comparable laptops elsewhere so I decided to order anyway. They also only deliver to the cardholder’s registered address which is not great when I’m out at work all day but I figured I could arrange a redelivery for a convenient date and take the day off work.
Initially the delivery estimate was December 14th. On December 12th they email to tell me it will now not be until January 3rd. Ho hum. Happens some time. I resign myself to waiting.
Imagine my surprise when I check the Dell order status website just after Christmas to discover that my laptop has been delivered. Delivered when and to whom? According to the tracking website of Walsh Western (Dell’s delivery company) it was delivered on the morning of Christmas Eve and there’s even a signature to prove it. Except, it’s not my signature and I know I was at home Christmas Eve. They also claim to have attempted delivery a few days earlier and left a card – this is a lie.
I discovered all this at the weekend when both Dell and Walsh Western shut down their phone lines. I start worrying that they’ve delivered to the wrong address and some unscrupulous bugger has decided they’ll accept the free laptop and keep it quiet. Or maybe one of my neighbours received it and hasn’t told me yet. I contact something like 25 of my neighbours but none of them have seen it.
I called Walsh Western’s customer service on New Year’s Eve but all I get is an automated system telling me my parcel has been delivered and giving me no option to speak to anyone. I call their head office and get told all I can do is call the customer service number. I say, there’s no human being there. They say, try in the new year.
I phone Dell. I go through something like two million options and wait ten minutes to talk to someone in India. The someone in India says he’s the wrong person and he’ll put me through to someone else. I wait another ten minutes (all this on an 0870 number of course).
Eventually I speak to someone in Ireland who tells me that Walsh Western pass the parcel on to a local delivery company for the actual delivery. The local delivery company have decided they didn’t want to hold my parcel over Christmas so they’ve sent it back to Walsh Western’s depot. That apparently qualifies as a delivery which explains the status and the signature (presumably of the person at the depot who received it back).
The nice Irish lady says she’ll get them to send it again. I ask if I can have it delivered to my work address. She says yes but it will delay things while they find the parcel and change the label. Not a problem. I give her my work address and she schedules delivery for today.
I check Walsh Western’s website the following day and lo and behold the delivery address has been changed. Only now it’s been changed to a strange amalgam of my home address and work address. I hope that it’s just the website that’s screwy but email Dell asking them to check it’s correct. Two days later and they still haven’t acknowledged my email.
And so to today. I hoped I would get the package since the post code was at least correct and I’d given my mobile number so the driver could call me if he got to the right road but didn’t know which office to deliver to. I check the Walsh Western website all day and it shows my parcel out for delivery. Five o’clock rolls around and there’s no parcel. Check the website again and apparently they attempted delivery at 9am, no one was home and they left a card – this is a lie. We have a warehouse where the staff spend all day receiving and despatching parcels. They would have been there from 8.30 am at the latest. There’s no way that they could have attempted delivery and not found somebody to accept it.
So I come home half expecting to find a “while you were out card” after they came to the wrong address but no, nothing. Phone Walsh Western. This time I get an option to speak to someone except their office is closed. No mention of when it might reopen. I call Dell. Five million menu options later I get told that my order has been placed with the business sales department and they close at 4pm. The guy I’m talking to can’t help as he only deals with home customers.
Remember that this is a delivery service I’ve paid sixty quid for. It has now reached the point where it would have been cheaper, easier and quicker for me to book myself on Ryan Air and go and collect it from their factory in Limerick myself.
I’m so angry and frustrated with Dell I’d just cancel the order were it not for that fact that the laptop is (or was supposed to be) a Christmas present and I’ve already told the recipient it’s on its way. I’ve now got to wait until Monday until I can even contact anyone and then God knows how long until they can redeliver. It’s taken a month so far and, of course, they’ve already charged my credit card. If you’re thinking of ordering from Dell, don’t bother. Their uselessness and incompetence is matched only by their ineptitude in choosing a delivery company who can, you know, deliver a parcel.

A million and one complaints from people on different web pages frustrated by the dell/Walsh Western alliance. If businesses got contracts based more on merit/competence, than on golf course facilitated friendship, Dell would have long dissociated itself with Walsh Western

I tried buying from Dell and had a similar experience. See similar experiences on the following site:

I’ve been waiting in all afternoon for my dell laptop to arrive. As it’s now 5:50pm I thought I’d see if there was a number I could ring to confirm my delivery was still on it’s way. Guess what, I also can’t find a contact number but I did find al your posts…help. Did anyone ever get their laptop in the end?

I too so wish I had found these lists of compalaints before I ordered from Dell.
I actually received my laptop in a week, but the mains lead in the box is totally incompatible with UK wiring.
I have waited for nearly a month for a suitable lead.
It was coming on Tuesday according to Walsh Western website. I stayed in all day!!!
At 6pm I checked the webpage again and they had logged at 16.29 that the item was not on the delivery. Looking today, Thursday, it is once again on the way, no-one has told me, do I waste another whole day. How these two companies are still trading beats me.
Please, please let the laptop work if I ever get the right lead!

B Hughes, the same is hapopening to me! My boyfriend ordered a very powerful computer that he needed for work. I was told I would receive it before October 9th… I´m still waiting!!! They communicated my boyfriend that it was delayed, and now supposedly they already sent it to Walsh Western last week, I should have it already, and I don´t. I try to track it down in Walsh and Western website, and it says that the customer and order numbers don´t match… this is outrageous.

Well where do i start…. I am outraged with the service from DELL. I ordered a laptop on the 17th oct, it keeps showing me in delivery mode on their website so i phoned them only to be told to shut up & i have the prob not them, they wouldnt give me any contact address for walsh western, so i hunted them down on the internet… when they answered i thought i had the wrong company as they asnwered the phone saying SYNCREON TECHNOLOGY !!! I asked if they were walsh western ?? to be told by the lady well yes we was over 2 years ago, as they changed their name !!!!! i explained my issues with them about my order & they said i will receive my order tomorrow fingers crossed i do, i told them about DELL still using walsh western & that no contact details were handed over to me they said it will be invetigated well fingers crossed they do as DELL is totally incompetent! i wish everyone luck & hope this new named company will deliver as they have said their contact number is : 08719873355
October 29th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
hey ho, guess i’ve joined a long line of unhappy bods!
Like everyone i ordered a laptop over a month ago… same old story – waited in twice for it… kicked off and have had the offer of 10% OF THE VALUE OF MY ORDER AS COMPENSATION. suggest if you are still waiting you tell them you had to take unpaid leave to wait in for it, it worked for me and whilst i am still waiting for delivery, at least i’m content that i’ve screwed them back for something.
i have however never dealt with such an incompetent bunch of fools in my life!
October 30th, 2009 at 5:07 pm

They said they would deliver on 30th october and they did !
I would definatley reccomend Walsh Western
October 30th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Hi Sophie and Richard
Glad you both had positive experiences with your respective deliveries. If I had a more suspicious mind I might wonder why you both posted within 3 minutes from the same IP address to praise Walsh Western but I’m sure that would be unfair of me.

I thought I would leave some feedback on my experience with Dell and the delivery by Walsh Western now called Syncreon as it worked for me.
I ordered my laptop on 22 October 2009 and I then found all the bad comments about the delivery and I was really worried I was going to receive the same poor service and I may never see this laptop. I had already worked myself up and had called Dell direct to find out what to expect. In fairness by using the ‘Order Status’ link within Dell website this tells you exactly what is going on with the production. When it goes to the Delivery stage you think it is with the carriers but it will not be for about 3 days. Syncreon will eventually take delivery of it and they will give you the automated call to organise delivery. They called me on 29 October and said it will be delivered on 30 October in the morning. It was delivered at 11.15am on 30 October as promised. The order tracking service that Dell let you use DOES NOT WORK because the Dell numbers do not correspond with Syncreon (ridiculous I know). The order number needs to be 9 digits so if yours is not then just add zeros in front of it to make a 9 digit number. The customer number needs to have the GB1 replaced with 02 and then the rest of the customer number. If you do this you will see the tracking and it all adds up and is a good service.
The thing that is crazy is Dell do not allow delivery to an address that is not your billing address like work. If this was allowed then people would not have to take time off work and I think the experience would be so much better.
November 3rd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
They did mention that you may not be able to track the delivery for up to 4 days didn’t they?
However, for most people here that is not the main point.
The point is that Walsh Western only manage the delivery but Syncreon is the one that do an actual delivery.
Another bad thing about Dell is that the Customer Service is terrible. They cannot resolve your problem most of the time and those saying Dell is good is just one in the million chances.
My English is not very good. But I think you should get the point I’m trying to make.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Very interesting reading and worrying as we are waiting for our order supposedly being delivered tomorrow between 08.00-18.00. Having checked the delivery site it states that the package is currently in CHINA, Uhmm we are in Devon, UK so not sure why it has gone via China or is it coming from there?

My Dad lives in Australia and bought me a laptop for my Uni stuff and that started the first problem. He had 2 calls from Dell confirming that he had ordered the Laptop with a mouse and he even had 2 from his credit card company (which is good) even though how do crooks still get away with fraud normally. Then he received a email to say that they had tried to deliver the laptop (no card was left). He rang from Australia and got attitude from Dell to say that they were delivering some thing today couldn’t tell him what but Dell created 2 separate orders for the laptop and mouse and delivering them on 2 separate days 5/11 Thursday and 6/11 Friday. How stupid is that!!! I have to waste 2 days pay and hope they turn up as promised. They better if not were is there customer service!!!

Just to add a counter-balance to this discussion, I ordered a new desktop PC from Dell two or three weeks ago and was contacted by the delivery partner earlier this week to say that it would be delivered this Thursday between 08.00 and 13.00. Yesterday (Wednesday) I read the comments on this website and started to have grave misgivings! I went onto the Walsh Western website and had the same experience as others have had, i.e. the message that the Order Number entered did not match the Customer Number. This despite several attempts, trying all the suggested workarounds suggested by others above. (I have reported this problem by email to Walsh Western, but no reply as yet.)
Anyway, this morning (Thursday) at 07.58 a UKMAIL van pulled up outside my house and the PC was delivered smack on 08.00. I haven’t opened the boxes yet as I was on my way to work when they arrived, but speaking only from my own experience, I certainly can’t fault the delivery.

November 6th, 2009 at 10:40 am
I am afraid this post adds yet further proof of Dell’s poor service and systems. I ordered a laptop on 29th Oct. On placement of order it says order will be released into production as soon as bank clears payment. Only the next correspoondance, the order acknowlwdgement, gives the bad news, delivery can take up to 12 days. I try to chase, the Dell operative says she will look into expidite possibilities and ring me back. She never does. Then the staus site tells me it is in the ‘delivery’ phase…great! No it isn’t, now it gets worse. I try to check on the link to the infamous Walsh Western only to get “The order number entered did not match the Customer Number” and this a link form a page I can only get to with those two numbers! So I ring Dell to see why not..she says just a time thing, try again tomorrow. Next morning we are all at home, two doorbells, ours doesn’t work, battery flat, dog barks as “sorry we missed you” card is slipped through the letter box. I go to door, he has already gotten away. I ring “My Home Delivery” I give them my post code, I give them my “reference number” as supplied on their card. I do not exist. The problem continues, they too said the manager would ring me back, yet again no call comes. What a pile of poop. Incompetence, lack of care, the value for money that attracted me is rapidly becoming insignificant. I will update this experience, meanwhile I wait, but no longer with any hope or expectation.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
I ordered a laptop from Dell last Friday (30th Oct) and having come across this site a few days ago I wasn’t too hopeful of getting it on time. However I am pleased to say that here I am using it!
I was told it would arrive sometime next week but I got an automated phone call yesterday saying that it would be delivered today between 8am and 1pm. The only issue I had with this is that it was very short notice and I couldn’t arrange for someone to be in to take it. Also the message left no contact number, so I couldn’t change the delivery day. I did try phoning the number above (Syncreon Technology) but I was on hold for a while so gave up!
They came at 8.30 this morning and left a card through the door. The actual delivery was being handled by Business Post (AKA UKMail). I contacted them direct from the number they left and they were nothing but polite and helpful. I arranged to collect my laptop from the depot this evening and had no problems.
If only everyone could have this good service, seems Dell need to start listening to their customers!
November 9th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
If no delivery & tracking shows location ‘BPO’(Business Post/UKMail)then phone:
0845 149 2132 and give them your order no. I got through straight away and they arranged a delivery time and date and then delivered as arranged.
November 9th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Dell do allow delivery to your work address – I got that option when I ordered but I had to call my bank and authorise it. It might only be available with selected banks so you might not get the option with all payment methods.
Currently getting the ‘order number does not match the customer number’ thing – but on the Dell site it says it might take 4 days for the order to get onto Walsh Western’s system, so this error might simply mean that it’s not on their system yet. They could handle this better than a blank page with an alert box – it’s not very helpful.
I only ordered mine last week and I hope I don’t join the ranks of the seriously p***ed off people above. It says up to 17 days on the website though and I knew that when I ordered it, so I’m going to be patient… they are selling just about the best value laptops available in the UK and I suspect they might get a bit overwhelmed with orders from time to time. I paid £250 for a scratch ‘n’ dent Inspiron 1545 with a pentium dual core cpu for example.

I’d just like to add my own experience to this post which is being written on the new dell studio 1557 laptop.
I’d ordered mine on the 25th October and received confirmation the next day with an estimated delivery date of the 4th November. Everything went smoothly within the dell system and on the 31st October the dell site showed that the system had been despatched. Unfortunately I woke to an e-mail to state that the delivery date had changed and that it would be another week before I would receive the laptop.
I wasn’t too fussed that it had been delayed and could live with it but on the Tuesday I received the automated call asking for a delivery time on the 4th.
As usual, the order number / customer not matching problem occurred on their website and after reading these posts wasn’t too confident that it would be delivered but it was.
Luckily I was in to take delivery as I’d specified an afternoon delivery but they arrived 30 mins after me coming home at 11.30
All in all the service received was excellent although it would be nice to have a working order tracking system
I know there seems to be more posts about poor service than good, but remember that people generally do make there feelings heard when things don’t go right more often than when they do.
November 10th, 2009 at 10:33 am
I am updating my post of 6th Nov. First of all the “we missed you card” from ‘My home delivery’ was a complete red herring. Nothing to do with Dell or with me. In fact Dell always gave themselves until Wed 11th to deliver to me, and it actyally arrived in perfect order yesterday, 9th Nov. I did get a helpfull response and follow up from Dell but there remains a problem. It wasn’t until I got an email from Syncreon that the order no/customer number issue was cleared up. Whilst Dell and Syncreon use basically the same numbers they either prefix with a GB or a 0 and it’s not until you get Syncreon’s version that you stand a chance of getting onto their tracking system. If you are having this problem, try using 02 in front of the last 7 digits of your cust no (instead of Dell’s GB1 and with the order number add a 0 in front of the 8 digit number. If they could get these simple communication issues sorted out, the whole process would be far less stressfull. Hope the numbers trick above helps. The laptop is doing just what it says on the tin though.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:05 am
I have been reading the above posts with interest while awaiting my new Dell laptop, and was quite worried about whether it would turn up at all. I ordered it on the 1st November, and the estimated delivery date was the 18th. We missed the automated call to arrange delivery, but it self generated for yesterday morning. It turned up in perfect order yesterday right on time, and to my work address, with no problems or queries on this at all. Dell do need to sort out the link to the Best Western pages with the 0s and 02s to get right, but a quick look on various forums soon sorted that out. As for the laptop, it is an Inspiron 1750 and I am very impressed.
November 11th, 2009 at 10:08 am
Sorry, I’ve just noticed I typed Best Western instead of Walsh Western – if it was linking to a hotel chain then Dell would really have a problem.
Now – Best Western: there’s a company I have had problems with!!

“Order Number does not Match Customer Number”
As with many IT applications, the simple things often cause the biggest problems.
Roy Barber is absolutly right in his advice, and I was able to progress to an order status screen.
Just to reiterate, go to this link:
https://seal.syncreon.com/synview-online.moc/360.syn/system_selection.p?
And rather than use your Dell information,
add ’02′ in front of the last 7 digits of your cust no (instead of Dell’s GB1):
:: 02XXXXXXX
add a 0 in front of the 8 digit number order number:
:: 0XXXXXXXX
Good luck.
November 11th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
I ordered my Dell on November 1st with an estimated delivery date of the 17th. I have been unable to track my order with customer/order number not matching etc even with the work arounds but just thought I would give them until the estimated date anyway before investigating further. On Monday 9th November I received the automated call to say that they would be delivering the next day, but with the option of changing the delivery date and given an am or pm slot option. I changed it to today (11th) with the am slot between 8am and 1pm, doubting all the time that this would happen after reading all the messages of non delivery etc. At 11.30 today I am pleased to say that my Dell turned up and is already up and running with one happy student daughter!! So maybe I am just one of the lucky ones, but I just wanted to post a positive feedback as I was like everyone else and expecting a drama!! I did not receive an e-mail confirming delivery and of course not being able to track it did not give me the confidence and reassurance that all customers should get!! But very very happy with the laptop and the delivery time scale!!
November 11th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Just to update(see previous entries)-the service engineer arrived on time, and with the correct parts.Unfortunately the replacement screen was dead on arrival. As an engineer i accept that this happens sometimes,so an appointment was made for the following evening.Again an engineer turned up on time and completed the repairs.I have to say that barring the fact that the laptop had faults from new,the service from Dell has been excellent!!!
November 14th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Thanks very much to jay crowe who has found a way to translate the order number and the customer number, this is to avoid the message “the order number and the customer number do not match” just to remind anyone,
add 02 instead of GB1 to the start of your cutomer number found on your order e-mail.
add 0 infront of your 7 diget number, this should now work,
thanks very much again jay crowe, worked for me now waiting for my dell studio 1555
November 16th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Well I’ve been getting phone calls daily to arrange a delivery for the laptop I ordered. Fought with automated telephone systems all day and eventually managed to speak to a real live person at Syncreon! I explained that due to work committments, etc, I would not be available to accept delivery until 24th November (1 week from today). Advised by Syncreon’s agent (and I think there is only one judging by the amount of time I was on hold) that their system would not accept this date as it is too far in advance!! Please – what sort of delivery booking system will not allow you to book something one week from today?
We will see how it goes – can feel a “Watchdog” moment coming on …
November 18th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
oooooooooooops…………………
oh dear dell customers, its happeninig if i new this before i won’t ordered my laptop.they told me they will deliver tomorrow but can’t give me a exact time

November 20th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Ordered my Dell Studio 1555 on the 11th of November and took delivery on the 18th.
Tracked my order online using the critria above (thomas) and was informed every step of the way, even to what time it was loaded on the van! I know that some people will experience difficulties, as with everything, but I’m sure the vast majority will have a very good experience like me!
December 15th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Nothing changes! I ordered my Studio 1557 a week ago and it was built quickly (standard spec).
For the last four days the Walsh Western site has shown that it left China and “Your order is in transit and will be delivered within the next 4 days. A scheduled delivery date will be available on this page in the next 24 hours”
Four days later and I still have no idea when/if it will be delivered…
Impressive, Michael!
December 17th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Ordered Laptop 5th December …standard spec
Informed on 14th by electronic phone message would be delivered 15th or 16th …great so chose 16th PM.
Waited in all day 16th …track & trace on Walsh Western stated in was on its way….so no worries …
5:15PM on 16th not arrived tried ring Walsh Western ..got through to only to hear ‘All our operators are busy’ and line went dead !
Rang back only to get ‘offices are now closed’ !
Rang on 17th morning ..held onto the line even when it went dead ..eventually answered after 25mins !
Track & trace now showing expected delivery date n/a !
Customer care guy said they have lost my laptop in the warehouse and Dell would be investigating …advised me to ring Dell
So ring Dell …after choosing endless options on the phone ..get through to call centre in India …who state that they have a 3 day SLA to resolve the missing laptop …but are unable to either ring me back or send an email giving me any up date on how the search is going …unbelievable.
Neither Walsh Western or Dell think they have a duty to inform me of how the search is going in that time !
So I am left with 2 days pre xmas to get a the laptop delivered or get my money back and get a replacement !
This is a present for my daughter.
And Dell think this is customer care !
Needless to say I will never ever buy anything from Dell again
December 18th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
I have had a very similar experience to John, above.
I ordered my Dell desktop on December 8th. On 14th December the Dell website told me my order had been shipped, though I never received an email telling me this as they promise at the checkout.
I waited for Walsh Western to contact me. They did so- according to their website- on the 16th, though my call waiting service didn’t pick up their call which makes me dubious. Nevertheless I called them back immediately.
After waiting on the phone for 30 minutes- WARNING: there is no music/messages playing on hold for some time, the line has not gone dead. Eventually spoke to an operator. Arranged delivery for the next day, 8am-1pm.
Waited in on 17th December. No sign of delivery in the morning so waited in all afternoon. Rang Walsh Western and waited on the phone for 25 minutes before it cut out. I rang back: it was obvious why they had cut me off- they had bunked off- and there was now a pre-recorded message that they were shut (at 5.30!). Spoke to Dell, they said they would contact them.
The next day I rang Walsh Western again. Waited on hold for half an hour. No response so gave up. Emailed Walsh Western. No response. Emailed Dell. They promised to escalate to a manager who would call me back today. Failed to do so. Emailed the original person I spoke to at Dell asking them to call me. Failed to do so. In the meantime I rang Walsh Western again. Waited nearly an hour this time and still they didn’t pick up the phone.
I don’t know what to do now. They have taken my payment and I am not able to get in contact to arrange delivery. According to the website of Walsh Western my investment of over £500 is sitting in a warehouse, somewhere. However, I want this to serve as a warning. I have ordered many computers from Dell before and the products and the technical support has always been good. However, their partnership with Walsh Western is a disaster. The web is full of stories of people having troubles with the courier. Hours have been spent by people on their helpline and they rarely bother answering. I can’t help wondering, given that they have a premium line number of 10p a minute, if they ignore the calls on purpose.
THINK VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE ORDERING.

I had a very similar experience to John and Ed above, even though I have not managed to speak to a Dell human being yet, apart from stating my order number to 3 reps and being put straight on hold (no apologies or anything) over 4 hrs of call time. Got call from Welsh Western to confirm am delivery on 15th. Took day off. No one appeared. Then same thing happened on 17th. An other wasted day off. Emailed Dell on 15th. Ignored. Called Syncreon this morning (the actual name of the delivery company) and got nowhere. I have now managed to get a number for BPO Hemel Hemstead, who is in theory holding the parcel, and they seemed much more helpful and switched on. They promised to try and find out where my laptop is. This is the number in case your order is also held by them: 08451492068. Fingers crossed..
Never again with Dell directly.

Got delivery today on time (AM appointment) considering how bad the weather is here today thats not bad going.
Track and trace website is dreadful though, couldnt trace it using the details dell provided, “order number doesnt match account number.
Even gave me an ETA when i rang in the morning, although I did have to wait 20 mins to speak to someone.

I am absolutely livid at the service (or distinct lack of) i have received from both dell and the delivery company ‘walsh western’. Today was my expected delivery date for my eagerly awaited laptop; a christmas present for my partner. After receiving no ‘pre-call’ by lunchtime with an expected delivery time, i checked my delivery status online only to discover i had in fact missed 2 ‘pre-calls’ from the delivery company…. there was no conceivable way this could be the case. An error on their part???? I intended to find out. After a total of 3 hours on hold to dell bouncing back from department to department and listening to every back catalogue of song conceivable, i was given a number for the delivery company. Low and behold after literally hours of trying- no one took my call. Cleverly my status was updated again online, to say i had received a postcard to arrange another delivery date. By 6pm this evening i have had to resign myself to a delivery comapany who will outrightly lie and ignore its customers, accept my partner wont be receiving a christmas present from myself this year, try and recoup the massive phone bills i expect in the new year not to mention the loss of earnings at work and the fundermental fact that my laptop is nowhere to be seen. Merry Christmas Dell and walsh western delivery.

I think it is disgusting that Walsh Western employees are FALSELY posting positive reviews here.(See October 29th 2009).
FUNNY that “Richard” and “Sophie” both can’t spell RECOMMEND, I wonder if it’s the same “Richard” that features in this review of Walsh Western’s SHODDY customer service (see: http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/misc-systems/dell-1/403055/)
It’s a wonder how these scandalous LIARS are still trading.
“PRE-CALL to arrange delivery” – Their tracking page is a WORK OF FICTION – How about they DELIVER on the specified date?
Their customer service is a SHAMBLES.
AVOID WALSH WESTERN like the plague. It is RIDICULOUS that DELL use this sham courier company.
January 2nd, 2010 at 7:07 pm
We ordered our dell a week and a half before Christmas and told we would get the laptop before the big day but Walsh Western have had other ideas. To the surprise of the dell support line Walsh Western don’t work before or after Christmas it seems the laptops got to Britain but now in their hand has got no further. If Dell used another delivery company we would have had the laptop by now.
Come on Dell ditch them, they are effecting your good name !!!!!!!!! I’d think again before getting any more machines from Dell.
January 5th, 2010 at 11:21 am
I thought I would share my experience of Dell’s customer service during the past month. I ordered a new computer in time for Christmas on the 30th November and payment was taken from my account on the 5th December. The local courier (UKMail) left a card on the 15th Dec and agreed to redeliver on the 17th. I took the day off work and waited in all day, but no delivery came. The courier would not pick up their phone all day so I can only assume they took the day off! I e-mailed Dell to complain and request delivery from another courier. By the 22nd I had received no response from Dell, so I rang the courier who informed me they had returned the computer to Dell (with no explanation of the failed delivery!). So I waited to hear from them….
Yesterday, with Christmas now a distant memory, I had still received no response from Dell. My tracking number on the website had not worked at any point so I rang their call centre. The ‘Customer Service advisor was rude and clearly had no idea where my order was. I was given an 0871 number for the ‘carrier’ Syncreon/Walsh Western and spent the next 30 minutes on hold on this number. At this point I gave up and wrote a letter of complaint to Dell… still no sign of the computer. Useless company!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:13 am
0871983355 customer service number if it can be called that. be warned i’ve waited a month this line just means they lie to your face. im like all of you sick of their kings new clothes card they leave on attempted delivery
January 19th, 2010 at 10:29 am
I am fuming currently. I ordered a Dell Studio XPS 16 on the 23rd December. After waiting almost a month I was told yesterday that it would be delivered this morning, so I have taken the morning off work only to look on the Walsh Western site and see that it is sat in their depot with a status of ‘Undelivered/Incomplete’. I rang Dell and asked them what the status meant, and they said that it normally means someone has tried to deliver it to my house but nobody was in. Well I have been here all morning in the front room and nobody has bloody delivered it! What a lie. I rang dell and was on hold for 25 minutes, then rang Synchreon only for all their internal systems to fail so I can’t even speak to someone there. What a load of jokers. I am staggered that a company treats their customers with such contempt.
January 21st, 2010 at 10:55 am
There’s not much I can add to this really as I’ve pretty much had the same problems but all I can say is that the customer number 0871 9873 355 was so helpful thank you – something I would not have found myself as Dell are still telling people the distribution company is Walsh Western and that’s my main beef, the name was changed 2 years ago and stops people from finding the right numbers to call with complaints.
I was promised the right distribution company would be forwarded in future…. I wont hold my breath
January 21st, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Ordered laptop on 8th Jan with estimated delivery date of 22nd Jan (tomorrow)
on Monday 18th the order status changed to state that the estimated delivery date was: order shipped?
Against shipped date it said: Information temporarily unavvailable.
No tracking number and a blank Walsh Western page when I click on the link
I called Walsh Western / Synwiew and got told that there is no record of my Dell order number on there system. They said that they are told by Dell 48 hours before items are shipped and can then take 4-6 days to get to the UK, at which point Synwiew will call me.
I realise that things can get delayed but what i’m annoyed at is that Dell have changed my status to say my laptop has been shipped when it hasn’t. Why bother lying about it?
Not sure when i’ll get my laptop now but it certainly won’t be tomorrow
January 25th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
Following on from the above;
I emailed Dell on 21st Jan and have had no reply since. Neither have I had any contact with them about the delivery date of the 22nd slipping.
The order status has now changed to say it was shipped on 17th Jan but I find this hard to believe as I now have a tracking number on the page for Walsh and Western which says that my laptop departed the manufacturing facility on 22nd. To be honest i’m done with chasing as it’s too easy for them to ignore me.
I’ll wait to hear from Walsh and Western and just let everyone know about the poor service they deliver in the hope they don’t face the same problems I have. I will not buy from Dell again though
January 26th, 2010 at 7:25 pm
I decided to order a Dell desktop on the 21st Jan, initially it said that that the eta would be 25th Feb, however when I next looked it said the order had been shipped and the eta was now 22nd Jan.
It is now the 26th and I cannot access the Walsh Western tracking status they link to. It is a disgrace that one of the worlds largest computer manufacturers cannot even link properly to an order site. Plus their customer service line (which they charge a nice sum for) is only open until 6pm – which makes it interesting if you have an office job.
I will wait another day, if I have not received my order by tomorrow then I shall cancel. It is not as if I am forced to use Dell, there are plenty of good contenders that I can easily purchase and receive the same day.
Dell are a disgrace.
January 26th, 2010 at 9:48 pm
Hi,
I’ve been having trouble using the Dell tracking facility too, but have found a solution.
Instead of changing GB1 to 02, you must change just the GB to 02. AND also you must remove the LAST digit – so for example :
Enter 021xxxx74 rather than GB1xxxx746
(notice that the 6 has been removed from the end).
I can only assume that the last digit is actually a checksum digit for Dell’s number and not essential for the tracker. In any case it works for me and the tracker shows my correct delivery address and other particulars.
Hope this helps someone else.
Cheers.
PS My shipment is due in 3 days time, fingers crossed!
January 30th, 2010 at 1:30 pm
Hi all,
I ordered my laptop on the 26th January and was given an estimated delivery date of 22nd February.
Checked my “online tracking” and it says it’s already been shipped. However, now when I try to use the “online tracking” it doesn’t load, and says that the walshwestern.com website doesn’t even exist…
My dad got a laptop from Dell years ago and said that everything about the order procedure and delivery was second to none, so I thought, great, Dell is the way to go.
Now i’m starting to wonder if i’m going to regret my decision…
February 6th, 2010 at 7:03 am
Still waiting for my box 1 of 2, received box 2 of 2 and an order complete after a successfull delivery. Suddenly after hours on the phone to India and the mombai shuffle they (Indian Phone Support) did exactly what I did, i.e. fill in the complaint form on the Dell web. I mean, just how much money is Dell loosing here. Confidence in their product IS being affected by a below standard delivery and tracking system. By the way, the web site tracking shown below is a lie, I took a screenie on the evening of the 5th and that last line was not there. So someone is making up these tracking entries as they go along and they are back-dating them. They are NOT the product of a bar-code scanner.
I used to like Dell, I mean their kit is great. The only thing that attracted me to them was they had a good support system in place. Heck, they had the BEST support system in place. Now I’m not so sure. My confidence has ebbed away. I’m going to think long and hard about which company gets my tablet order. I may end up going with Archos and not Dell. I also need to upgrade my Solaris box to 64 bit. Once again, I have confidence in Dell, but no confidence in the delivery. I may go down to PC World and build my own system. Now that WOULD be nice, a pick-and-mix build-your-own. Technicians there to help you set up a dual screen, striped raid, high rez, chunky memory, aaaaaaagh, chunky memory (drool). If I was a Dell shareholder I’d be selling my Dell shares about now.

I’m waiting at home (during a very busy work week) for a delivery that’s supposed to arrive by 1.00pm today. I received the automated telephone call making the arrangements yesterday and the Walsh Western link from Dell suggests my deliveries are in the right area. However after reading all these comments I’m a teensy bit worried that I might be sitting here in vain, but living in hope that the deliveries will arrive as scheduled. Will keep you posted. By the way, the software I ordered with my new PC is not scheduled to arrive for another week or so. If Dell had told me that when I ordered it I would have gone to Amazon, who are slightly more expensive, but could have delivered the following day. What good is a PC without software?
February 17th, 2010 at 11:19 am
I can’t stand the excitement, the Walsh Western track and trace record has changed since my last comment and now says “ORDER ON DELIVERY”. The anticipation is killing me…
February 17th, 2010 at 12:13 pm
The delivery arrived as promised just before noon and everything seems in order (so far). Now just need the software to arrive…
February 18th, 2010 at 10:15 am
Well, after I read all this comments I wish I had found these lists of compalaints before I ordered from Dell. I have ordered on 12th of February, not far away and it’s in delivery progress right now.
I cannot login on Walsh Western website as it is says that “The order number did not much the customer number.” So I have send an e-mail to dell few hours ago and still waiting for the answer.
I hope they will give me another number to try as I read in one of the comments this thing happened to many people and what dell did, is just gave out a new number to check.
It is says that it will be delivered on or before 01/03/2010, so I hope it will be alright but I don’t feel confident at all right now.
I will keep posting.
February 18th, 2010 at 9:14 pm
Waited all day long and did not recieve a reply from Dell. I have checked my bank balance and somehow I still got money on my account, how is that possible?
I have received an invoice from Dell and still got my money with me.
Confused.
February 23rd, 2010 at 3:42 pm
In the same boat as Alex. Have received an invoice from Dell, but money is still in my account?!
Had the automated call today from Dell / Walsh Western, and am going to camp out by the front door tomorrow morning in hope!
February 23rd, 2010 at 7:04 pm
I have just recieved my 3rd dell laptop. I can not fault dell, when there have been problems they fixed it straight away. The delivery has always been on time.
What i find amazing is that people moan but you still all order from Dell.
February 25th, 2010 at 11:00 am
Well. I have received my laptop 13 days after the order which is today.
I have unpacked my laptop and finally switched it on but when I’ve done that, the screen went totally dark and you can’t really see what is going on the screen. When I tried to close open/close the screen a bit further up and down the screen went bright as normal few times.
Basically I think the screen was damaged and I am going to write a letter to their support to see what I can do with it.
There is one more thing. I have read a comment about 8-cell battery that comes with Inspiron 13z and that it is a bit bigger than the hole in a laptop but when I saw it for the first time I was like “wtf?”. It is really big battery and the laptop does not really seems that good as it meant to.
March 18th, 2010 at 7:51 pm
Hmm I am now feeling uncomfortable about my dell order!
I originally placed an order on 23/2/2010 for a £3100 Alienware M17X i7 core processor laptop along with a mouse and printer.
Ive never ordered from dell before so this made me feel touchy as this laptop is more of an investment rather than just a purchase!
Anyway … I spoke to a helpful person on the sales team (as they usually are pre sales) who talked me through the process! The first person I spoke to gave me a wrong qoute for a cheaper price so I was not happy when this second one gave me a price much higher. Because of that she said she would add in some extra printer cartridges and the orginal discs for miscrosft office as a sorry because of the confusion.
So I continued with my order and was told it would be delievered on March 11th. However that didnt happen and when I checked the order status on the 10th the new expected date was 20th April. I understand it takes a while to build a custom computer and would rather have them do it steadily without rushing. The only thing that annoyed me is I wanted the laptop in the aurura red colour but she said it would take longer to build and now I find I could have done it anyway because they have delayed it.
So anyway … the thing I cant understand is Dell sent out the printer first in a seperate order, then the mouse a few days later and now ive recieved an email saying the delivery date for the laptop will arrive via UPS and NOT that western company everyone seems to be talking about on tuesday 23rd March. WHY DONT THEY SEND IT TOGETHER! LOL Would save them alot of money.
Just checked my order status today and the UPS website which yes I did have the tracking number problem as well states the updated arrival date is now 22nd March! I havent been informed of this change so its a good job I checked it out! lol
Im hoping the new laptop is going to arrive and work great but am feeling very nervous after seeing all these comments.
Also … I did try and email my sales rep last week who hasnt bothered to respond as I want to know when and where she is sending the free printer cartridges etc? Will I get them with the laptop or not? :>/
If I dont then I will be ringing up and giving them the full brunt as spending £3200 is a lot of money and I expect to recieve a top notch service!
I will be sending it right back if they dont give me my freebies as this was part of the deal!
If it doesnt arrive in good perfect order then ill also be complaining. lol
I was actually starting to think I had been ripped off as having it sent via UPS is a standard courier and I thought as stated on their website it would be arriving with that Syncreon courier who might have specilaised in fragile deliveries!
Im worried that having my £3000 laptop sent through the courier system will possible damage my new little beast but after the comments maybe UPS is the better service!
Ill update you on Monday if and when it arrives!
For the money ive paid though I wouldnt say ive recieved a brilliant service so far! Its slighly below standard and somewhat confusing.
They could certainly enhance their service by sorting out this delivery service and also possibly updating their website with better information, telephone numbers etc!
April 8th, 2010 at 8:44 am
Just to balance the comments submitted, I received my Inspiron 1545 yeaterday (7th April) exactly as defined in the target date of the tracking document.
I was fortunate enough to be at home (and having read the comments on here I made damn sure I was – and the previous day!), so no knowing how tricky things might have got if not.
I couldn’t really see the deliver van very well – but it wasn’t Dell & Walsh Western, so obviously they use local carriers for the final leg.
I originally ordered on 23rd March, so it took about 2 weeks, which even allowing for Easter seems a long wait, especially when Dell charge so much extra for delivery.
April 11th, 2010 at 12:42 pm
I am a senior member speaking on the behalf of Walsh Western,
We have delivered 99.9% of our items on time on normal days although during christmas our service was not running to schedule due to the non-working days and also very poor weather conditions.
Thankyou,
Phil
April 11th, 2010 at 12:43 pm
oh justin quit with the bullshit will you
April 11th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
the above comment was posted by my self not…Phil from Walsh Western.
April 11th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
I order dell vostro 1720 for cheap moneys, not arriving to my address on time and I want to report. The have told me to patient and they post me invoice because I not at home they said. But I dont understand this people, I am always at home, What theyr problem is?

Now my flight to ireland is costing me over 150 pound.
Excuses me for my poor level of English, im new to England i come from Sri lankan
April 11th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
these motehr foken will get payback
May 14th, 2010 at 11:29 am
Some good feedback to balance out the above. I ordered an Inspiron 1545 from Dell late on Weds night (fast track, ships in 48 hours) and according to the online tracking it was to be delivered today. Amazingly quick I thought and had someone at home lined up ready to sign for it. Then I came across this site and read these experiences with a heavy heart and feeling rather naive.
But, I just had a phone call from home that the parcel has arrived, 12 noon on Friday – a day and half after ordering.
Cannot comment on the contents yet but the delivery of the parcel and communications from Dell cannot be faulted. The only comment I’d make is that Dell say a phone call will be made to confirm delivery, that didn’t happen, but I think it’s more relevant with longer delivery times.
May 23rd, 2010 at 9:52 am
I ordered a Dell Studio XPS last Friday and, volcano notwithstanding, it was with me a week earlier than an initial estimated delivery date of a fortnight. My house is a bit difficult to find and I was concerned that the driver would deliver to the wrong address so I called Syncreon on the day of delivery, who were very helpful in giving me the number of the local delivery firm. I called the local firm (Business Post) who then rang the driver for me to check that he knew where I was and give him extra directions if necessary, then gave me an ETA to within 10 mins. All in all a very satisfactory experience, and the laptop isn’t bad either.
July 12th, 2010 at 7:11 am
I agree with you all. An appalling courier.
My main gripe is why on earth does it take FOUR DAYS for Walsh Western to update their website with tracking details?
September 21st, 2010 at 10:09 am
It gets better
I’m expecting (fingers crossed) a monitor to be delivered today, but the incompetent gits at WW have forgotten to renew their domain name walshwestern.com for OVER A WEEK so tracking is unavailable. Hey ho…
September 25th, 2010 at 2:53 pm
I ordered a desktop two weeks ago, I was expecting it for one week, then I found my card was not charged, then I called dell customer service, a lady in India said my order had been cancelled. Unbelievable ! Afterwards I reprocessed the previous order. Now I am waiting, really worried about if it can be delivered correctly. God knows why the customer service people are in India, why I also need to climb over ten million options on the phone.
October 23rd, 2010 at 7:09 am
Same story again !
Took a day off work (lost £100) – waited in all day for my laptop from Dell. Tracking showed it was out for delivery but of course it didn’t show up.
Called Walsh Western next day – they said the van had been invoved in an accident.
The tracking says the vehicle broke down !
Bull***t all the way
I am putting in a claim for lost income
October 25th, 2010 at 11:42 am
On a positive note I had a great experience. I was stressing out when I read these posts, but I suppose its mostly the people that have negative experiences that need to share their frustration, or are in need of advice.
My order was scheduled for today between 8am and 6pm. I work so couldnt stay home. I was betting on the off chance that Walsh Western might call before! I called Synchreon(I couldnt find Walsh Westerns number, it appears theyre the same company) just to double check. Was given an 087 number for the depot. In turn they gave me the number for the company they had hired to make the delivery in Manchester. I called the guy and told him I only lived 5 mins away from where I worked.
He said he’d call the driver to let him know to call 5 mins before he arrived. 2 Mins later I got a call that the driver is 5 mins away. Sped home. Just as I got there I got a call from the driver that hes outside. He was and I have my laptop!
By the way the dell order number didn’t match on the tracker for me as well. The number you should be looking for is at the bottom of the email from Syncreon. Hope that helps.

I ordered a laptop from Dell who confirmed delivery for the 26th Oct, look at my saga below! I do not understand the address query as all of this was confirmed to a human being when I placed the order, and all was correct on the confirmation.
Finally – why say that they have left a card when this is not true? I don’t get it! I would not recommend DELL and will tell everyone I know!!!

After reading all these posts I was a little worried about recieving my order. All ready had a bit of a saga trying to order my pc from Dell and I was really dreading it being delivered to me. I have to say delivery was spot on with the date. They wouldnt give me a morning or afternoon slot so it was an all day thing. Pc turned up about 3.30 by UK Mail. It’s not actually Walsh Western that deliver the goods. They just get the items from Poland or China to Ireland and then to their depo in the UK. From there it gets taken by whoever is going to deliever the parcel to their main depo near to where the goods need to go. In my case, it was Burgess Hill. UK Mail where the ones who got my pc to me not Walsh Western. They just contract the deliverys out I believe.
All in all I recived a good service from the delivery side. I did quiry a thing on my log before I got the pc though. It said discripancy. I called UK Mail up to ask about this and they said there was a hole in the box! When it arrived the hole was like a gash in the side. Luckly it didnt go through to the main box that housed the pc which was what my concern was.
Going by some of the posts though, I think Walsh Western/Dell do need to reconsider who they contract to do the main deliverys. There are an awful lot of people I have come across that have had problems with actually reciving their goods from Dell. Oh and Dell need to get their customer service back over to Ireland, it’s gone completely to pot since they outscourced it
January 12th, 2011 at 7:57 pm
I found this while looking for the name of the local depot in case I had problems receiving a new Laptop from Dell… fortunately all went as advertised. I got it through the Outlet, free shipping – the downside to this was that there was no opportunity to choose a delivery date and the slot was an 8 to 8 job…. annoying from that respect but it turned up about 3pm. Now, will the new Tower due to arrive on Friday do the same?
I get the impression that Walsh Western/Syncreon offer a somewhat patchy service as they use local delivery partners that may or may not have good standards – so whereas the likes of UPS have one corporate standard to achieve, Walsh Western instead have to get numerous carriers to try and do what they want. Your mileage may vary – so far for me it’s been a reasonable experience, but that way of working makes it an order of magnitude more difficult if there’s a problem…..

I ordered a laptop through the Dell outlet on 12th February and told the estimated delivery date was Friday 18th sometime between 8am and 6pm. After waiting in the house all morning of the 18th I was phoned around 1pm by someone saying that my laptop would now be delivered on Monday the 21st before 12.
It is now Monday and suprise suprise after waiting in the house all morning there is no sign of any laptop. After checking the tracking website it appears the laptop is in the BPO in Leicester and I managed to contact them using 08451492060, who were fairly helpful but rather abrupt, and claim the laptop is scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday the 22nd before 12.
Needless to say sitting round the house waiting for delivery is most frustrating and if the laptop does not arrive tomorrow then I will be chasing up this matter much more vigorously.
In the past when ordering PCs from dell I have never had any problems so perhaps this is just a problem for people using the dell outlet service.
P.S. I greatly enjoyed “Richard” and “Sophie Jones” comments, good to see that the PR team of “SYNCREON TECHNOLOGY?/Walsh Western?/insertnamehere”, are as inept as their couriers.

The above experience, perfectley reflects my own. The delivery company WalshWestern is absolutly unreliable and rubbish. They claimed to have dropped by several times and according to their online log, apparently have left a card each time, too. I never saw or received a card. Each time I spoke to them and agreed on yet another delivery day, it failed. If anyone considers odering a Dell online, you need the patience of a night owl, be ready to take several days off work (since their delivery window is 8AM-6PM) or just buy from competition that delivers.

Good lord I wish I’d found this page before I ordered. Just cancelled the order I made on the 17th April because it keeps not turning up. Syncreon and Dell refuse to acknowledge any fault, and the tracker currently states that I refused delivery at 9am, which is just a lie. Well, at least I get my £700 (that they took ever so quickly) back… in ten working days…

Oh no, I have only just read these comments and I can’t believe how long these complaints have been going on … why on earth haven’t Dell done something about!
I am currently working from home and waiting for my delivery, which my boss has very kindly agreed for me to do, and now I’m really worried that my new PC isn’t actually going to arrive to today!
Just spoken with Nicky at Dell customer services and she says it is due to be delivered today (there are just under 3 hrs remaining of the working day!) – however if it doesn’t arrive today it will be tomorrow – I explain this is not acceptable and I will not be here. Nicky has said that she will call me later to check that my pc has arrived, if it has I’ve no idea what she can do about it – other than inform the driver not to bother coming by tomorrow as I’m at work!
Fingers cross!

And now I join the masses!!! Order status updated to CUSTOMER NOT HOME – CARD LEFT. Except I’ve been here all day and there is no card through the door. Apparently I now have a Ben Appleby (I think) calling me back after he has spoken with the delivery company, and I’ve been given a service request number which references my complaint – great – watch this space.
June 14th, 2011 at 3:21 pm
apparently they have upgraded my delivery to an evening delivery – not THIS evening tho!!! And as I am out tomorrow eve I have requested it for Thursday eve…
June 17th, 2011 at 7:35 pm
Well, I’m embarrassed to say that I take back my previous comments. I still don’t know how, but I missed the delivery and there was a card in the door. I ended up collecting my pc at the end of the day from the depot. Dell even offer to refund a delivery charge for the inconvenience!

I ordered a Dell Refurb laptop on 11/07/2011 with an estimated delivery date of 19/07. I have to say that the laptop was delivered as stated, no problems at all
TBH, it meant me working from home — particularly after reading the previous comments and being almost convinced that I’d have to fight for my right to laptop! Just thought I should mention it here to balance the negative experiences!

I thought I should chime in here given that this is the first result for Walsh Western on google. Having ordered a laptop from Dell Outlet on 25/09/11 and then coming online to look at delivery times I was pretty panicked about how awful people seem to find their delivery. I’m off on holiday tomorrow and would have to wait 2 weeks to find out if it arrived at my office later than today. I got a notification my order had shipped on 27/09/11 and an ETA of 30/09/11. Although the tracking information wasn’t very helpful I called Dell on 29/09/11 to see if the ETA was still looking good. The person at Dell told me the ETA was actually 04/10/11 and the ETA on WWI’s site was only for the ETA into the country. I told her that it seemed pretty strange for a tracking system to give an ETA that wasn’t for the delivery address. She gave me a number for WWI and I decided to call them instead. The person I spoke to there was much more helpful and confirmed my order was out for delivery the next day.
I’m happy to say that it turned up at my office this morning before I did so for me WWI managed to deliver it exactly when they said they would.

I ordered a dell xps last Saturday and was due to come today 31/10/11 then I had an email saying it was delayed a day further then another email saying its know being delivered on the original date. Only problem is it hasn’t turned up, welsh western tracking site said some one came at 16:35 and no one was home…..there was three of us home….Card had been left to rearrange….no card to be found. Dell outlet customer service are a bunch of monkeys as they don’t even respond to any of my emails. Does any one have any tips on how to get my order, can I just go to the depot and pick it up?

Well I have made an order with dell and hope that it doesn’t take months. ATM it is saying ETA of around 10/11/2011 but I don’t really trust this and am now considering giving my self a few months extra of waiting time for my delivery. Status is : in production

Hey guys,
After reading a lot of posts, mainly from the start, my face shot red and i thought.. what have i got myself into.
ETA stated 01/01/11. I was on the defensive from day one, i knew if i rang them up i would be attacking their every responce without even listening. 01/11/11 came, i checked walsh western, and it stated 31/10/11 that it arrived with walsh western. More and more text appeared as the day progressed and by 11am, my laptop was delivered. My house is hard to find as well, no taxi can ever find my address.
The point of my post is do not trust messages from 3 years ago, this thread should be cleaned to only the last 6-12 months. Never judge a company on what they were doing 3 years ago. A lot of recent responses are positive. Its quite rare to see positive responces on forums, but, i thought it was only fair of me to give my feedback.

I think I’ve had a fairly good experience overall, although there are areas for improvment in the status information from both Walsh Western and DELL.
I ordered an XPS L702z through the DELL Outlet on Mon 31st Oct. As part of the order I was able to specify a different address for delivery (work) from the invoice address of my payment card (home). It’s a small link (easy to miss), but it is there and it works.
The first area I would say needs improving is by DELL themselves. From ordering, it took 4 working days for DELL to produce an invoice confirming payment, despite paying by card online. That’s just pitifully bad in this day and age.
As an outlet machine, the machine was obviously pre-configured. So my second beef is with why DELL had the status sitting on “In production” for that same four day gap.
Strangely, the shipping status changed to “Departed Manu.Facility” on the 3rd of Nov, a day before the invoice was sent.
Anyway, the Walsh Western tracking then took 30 hours to add the next status change, which was a completely useless “Note: Plan Committed”. This was Friday night.
The following Monday (7th) the status changed suddenly to add 4 simultaneous events (in then back out of the Hinkley hub).
Finally, on the 8th, the status indicated it was out on the van for delivery.
Date Time Location Activity
08/11/11 09:26 [signatory] DELIVERED
08/11/11 06:13 BPO – NOTTINGHAM ORDER ON DELIVERY.
08/11/11 03:23 BPO – NOTTINGHAM ORDER COMPLETE IN DEPOT.
08/11/11 03:23 BPO – NOTTINGHAM FIRST BOX SCANNED INTO HUB.
07/11/11 14:59 WWI – HINCKLEY ORDER DISPATCHED FROM HUB.
07/11/11 14:59 WWI – HINCKLEY FIRST BOX SCANNED OUT OF HUB.
07/11/11 14:59 WWI – HINCKLEY ORDER COMPLETE IN HUB.
07/11/11 14:59 WWI – HINCKLEY FIRST BOX SCANNED INTO HUB.
04/11/11 22:51 PLAN COMMITTED NOTE.
03/11/11 17:00 EMF DEPARTED MANU.FACILITY
The good points:
- The laptop arrived in perfect condition and working order.
- I saved a huge amount of money by using the Outlet compared to the normal “configure it” pages.
- I was able to specify a different delivery address from the invoice address, so no time off work required and no excuse for cards being left.
The bad points:
- Status updates are irregular and not always indicative of anything helpful to us punters who have coughed up a shed-load of money.
Overall rating, I’d say 4 out of 5 for DELL value, 3 out of 5 for unhelpful status (but better than none).
Final comment:
Compared to the excellent status updates available other suppliers such as scan.co.uk, who will even text your mobile with updates, DELL and WW both need to seriously rethink their status tracking capabilities.
